Dovje is a charming authentic alpine village in the Julian Alps region of Slovenia, located on the southern slopes of the Karavanke range and with a spectacular view of the Upper Sava valley and some of the main peaks of the Julian Alps, including it's highest - Triglav. Ela Apartments are located at the top of the village with stunning interrupted mountain views from the garden. It is a short walk into the village which has preserved a number of elements typical of alpine architecture; most interesting of these are the arched front doors of the old houses. There is also a lovely traditional Slovenian restaurant in the villlage in walking distance. In the sister village to Dovje - Mojstrana which is about 15 minutes walk and is another charming unspoilt alpine town offering plenty more restaurants, bars and a supermarket and the excellent Slovenian Alpine Museum.
Behind the village are three exceptionally beautiful valleys - the Vrata, Kot and Krma which each provide a starting point for trips into the Julian Alps and for climbing Triglav, Slovenia's highest mountain and national symbol. The Vrata Valley is the most impressive as it leads to the spectacular north face of Triglav and is also home to the pretty Pericnik waterfalls.
Generally the area provides for breathtaking scenery and a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature via a myriad of walking trails and other outdoor pursuits both in Winter and Summer. Walking is one of the main summer attractions with trails to suit all abilities. The pristine Sava Dolinka River runs through Dovje -Mojstrana and offers scope for excellent flyfishing as well as walks by the River and a fantastic family bike trail which follows the rivers course all the way into Italy past Kranjska Gora. In Winter Mojstrana offers an excellent local ski piste which is an ideal place for for kids and beginners to learn to ski in a gentle and inexpensive ski area.
For skiing there is also just 15 minutes drive away Kranjska Gora Ski Resort - arguably the most famous mountain resort in Slovenia. It is a superb resort for families and beginner – intermediate level skiers and offers a range of other Winter sports in proximity - cross country skiing, sled dog tours, ice climbing, ski mountaineering & ice skating. With stunning mountain scenery, great access to the Triglav National Park and a host of summer outdoor pursuits it remains very popular all year round. Lake Jasna, a short walk out of the centre of Kranjska Gora offers a stunning place to swim and sunbathe in beautiful mountain scenery.
There is also a huge range of mountain biking in the region including a World Cup mountain bike park on the Kranjska Gora ski slopes. There is also a Summer Sledging piste on the ski slopes which is very popular with kids. The town of Kranjska Gora itself is a pretty alpine affair, very family friendly, with lots of lively restaurants, bars and a couple of swimming pools / spas. World famous Lake Bled is just a 20 minute drive away. There is a regular daily bus service between Dovje - Mojstrana and Kranjska Gora, great for getting to the ski slopes.
