Grintovec

As the second most prominent mountain in Slovenia and the highest in the Kamnik Alps, Grintovec stands at an imposing 2,558 m. The first recorded climb was in 1759 by Giovanni Scopoli.

The mountain is a popular place for hiking and climbing. Each year it hosts the 'Gorski tek na Grintovec' mountain race. This tough mountain race covers 9.6 km, the first half of the route on gravel roads and trails through dense forests, then on steep mountain trails of loose scree through unspoilt spectacular high-alpine scenery. Starting at an altitude of 600 m, runners ascend almost 2,000 m. The time limit to finish the race is 2 1/2 hours. Stunning views of the surrounding mountains can be seen from the summit of Grintovec.
