Wedged between the Austrian and Hungarian borders, the Goričko Regional Park covers an area of 462 km², over 11 municipalities and 91 villages. The nature park tips the scales in serveral areas when compared to the rest of Slovenia, boasting the largest number of Otters, the largest Castle, and the highest number of followers of Evangelical and other Protestant demoninations.

The name 'Goričko' came from the word 'goriče', the name given by the local people to the hills that were formed at the bottom of the Pannonian Sea; hills that rose later on. People inhabited the area in pre-historic times and have remained here ever since. Progress avoided this area and has preserved its characteristic appearance of vineyards, orchards, cultivated fields and unique people.
