Apartment Barrio Alto is location in the heart of Gornji Trg, meaning "Upper square", one of the most charming districts of Ljubljana's old town, nestled under the Castle Hill. Gornji Trg is home to a number of Ljubljana's top rated restaurants including the famous Špajza opposite the apartment entrance and an eclectic range of bars and boutique hotels and shops. It is also the start point for walks up to the Castle and the adjoining park on the top of Castle Hill all of which offer magnificent views over the city and Alps in the distance. Occasionally Gornji trg is host to an outdoor craft market and to Summer concerts. The apartment is located in a historic building dating back to 1763 and which was renovated in the 2000s, retainig all of the charm of the original building. It adjoins a church designed by Plecnik, Ljubljana's most famous architect (don't worry as the church is decommissioned there are no church bells to wake you up in the morning). Whilst in very easy walking distance to the very centre of Ljubljana Old Town (3 minutes to Stari trg & the river, 10 minutes to Prešeren Square) Gornji Trg remains quiet in the evenings and is an authentic and charming base to experience Ljubljana's old town.

Apartment Barrio Alto, Ljubljana old town is located on the first floor of the building and was fully renovated in 2016 to a very high standard and with 3.5 m high vaulted ceilings and 75cm thick walls, it maintains all of the charm of the original building. The apartment measures circa 25m2 and consists of an open plan living room with comfortable sofabed, dining area and fulling equipped kitchen with 4 ring stove, oven, dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment. The sleeping area is semi separate from the living area with a partition wall but no door. The bathroom offers walk in shower and high quality fittings and furnishings. There are solid oak floors throughout and soundproof windows and doors. In addition there is TV and internet, plus washing machine / dryer available on request. A fantastic and comfortable base for a couple or a young family in a newly renovated and well designed apartment in a peaceful yet vibrant and charming part of Old Town Ljubljana.

It is also rather compact: the front door opens literally into the bedroom, which may be a challenge in wintertime, with coats and boots. But high arched ceilings (high enough for the suitcase to live on top of the wardrobe) and the pleasure of finding yourself in beautiful surroundings more than compensate, even though my belief is that this flat is far better suited for one person than for two people living in it at the same time. The neighborhood and its surroundings are pleasantly quiet at night. The managers respond to any issues that may arise and solve them immediately (good communication). Right around the corner a winding path takes you to the castle (I heartily recommend the Museum of Puppetry, which is part of the Castle Museum). Quality clothes stores, antique stores, and quirky little restaurants are within walking distance, and every day there will be something new to discover. A gem of a flat in a gem of a city
