We picked up the keys to the house in Smartno on Friday and spent a fantastic first weekend in the house and had a great session with Luka to run through the things we'd like to consider doing to the place.  The house is fantastic and we've already made friends with a few of the neighbours in a combination of English, Italian, German and a little bit of Slovenian (more Slovenian learning required!)

So thank you so much for all your help.  I know we asked loads of questions and were probably a right pain along the way so thank you for your patience and all your support.

Hopefully we'll be in touch soon about other projects (possibly the vineyard plan and also maybe the man with the van) and hopefully to arrange a date to meet up with you somewhere in Slovenia sometime in the future to thank you in person!

Hi Roger, I can recommend Dan Bendall and Pia at thinkslovenia.com , they have organised two viewing itinaries for us in the last six months and we have today signed the contract to buy a house near Kamnik. They have been very helpful in liasing with estate agents, lawyers and an Architect on our behalf and I think it would have far more stressful if we had to contact and try to communicate with everyone ourselves. We bought a beautiful old house in the Bela krajina region of Slovenia.  We then spent three years trying to obtain plans and organise permission for the conversion and renovation of this property into a family home and achieved nothing but frustration and disappointment.  Pia and Dan came on board six months ago and already we have architects we are happy to work with,  border problems have been solved and the plans and permissions are now awaiting confirmation.  We can honestly say that before Think Slovenia were involved we were considering giving up on our family dream of a new life.  Pia's diplomacy combined with Dan's commonsense and clear approach mean that our dream feels achievable in the very near future.

Think Slovenia have project managed the renovation of an old cottage for us.  The works have ranged from knocking down walls (involving a structural engineer) through to painting and decorating.  Dan and Pia have been a fantastic help, reassurance and source of knowledge throughout.  They have interviewed builders with us to help with the language and given guidance on characters, translated and negotiated quotes, organised keys and trips to buy required items as well as giving us regular and informative updates on what is going on.  We never would have been able to do the works without them and certainly would have paid a lot more, and wasted significant amounts of time, had we tried.  Above all though, they have given us invaluable piece of mind throughout to the point that we only felt the need to visit the works twice during the building process and could easily have not got out at all.  The renovations have far exceeded our expectations and we are totally delighted.  Dan & Pia have worked incredibly hard, given us great value for money and made a scary and inaccessible process both easy and fun.  Of course, as with any building project there were difficult conversations to have and decisions to make, but all the hard work was done for us by having Dan and Pia on board and helping us through it.  I am not even sure how we would have gone about these had we been negotiating on our own.  I would recommend them to anyone considering tackling a renovation without local knowledge of the language, the laws or the people.

I sent an e mail to Pia saying how much we enjoyed Lake Bled and Bohjhin ( I can never spell that name) and all of Slovenia. My wife , our grown up kids had a great time . My son and I cycled a lot and we enjoyed the unspoilt and layed back environment. The village Bodesce was so nice and the food wine and beer went down well -- not too expensive. Swimming walking cycling in wonderful surroundings -- the Triglav Nat Park is stunning The apartment was ideal apart from the wasps and we would recommend a stay their. I think one week is enough to see everything around their. I would recommend it to families and couples but most of all to those mums and dads who would like to bond more to their grown up children ( mine were 30 and 26 and loved it) with all the activities you can do together.

 We are all going to Croatia next year but we will definitley return to Slovenia --

We had such an amazing holiday, we travelled from Lake Bled (4* hotel) Hotel Ribno, to Podkoren, onto Austria (Zell am see) in another Ski Chalet, then on to Piran in a Youth Hostel.

By far our favourite place was Slovenia and in particular your apartment at Podkoren, we are so glad that we stayed their just outside Krajanska Gora, it was beautiful being in a small village, the pub was great across the road, the children stayed in the apartment playing and we sat outside with a jug of wine !!!

We would love to visit again anytime.

Our favourite activities were the tobogan run, and white water rafting at Bovec and Vintgar Gorge amongst many wonderful things that we saw and did.

By the way - the apartment was lovely and clean and much bigger than we anticipated.

My middle son who was not with us on the holiday is brian damaged and in a wheelchair, but we are thinking of returning to Slovenia with him in a year's time and staying again in that area. Obviously we will not be able to do all the amazing activities - but we will be able to soak up the atmosphere and explore more of Slovenia.

We had a great time in Podkoren, the apartment had plenty of space and was clean.  There were plenty of maps and brochures at the apartment to help with deciding which activites to do.
 
This Slovenian trip was a bit of a last minute decision, but well worth it.  We had never realised how beautiful Slovenia is.  Your company was recommended to us by friends of ours in Hungary who had booked one of your apartments just weeks previous.
 
We have returned to Australia for work purposes and no longer live in Hungary and so unfortunately will not be able to visit again.  Although we recommend Slovenia as a destination to our friends and collegues and suggest that if they go they contact ThinkSlovenia.

The ground floor apartment of Villa Planina is a very nice, well equipped apartment where you can stay easily with 4 adults...Indeed, the living room is very nice, the kitchen is well equipped except for the very small detail of making coffee (Turkish way). Also the bathroom and the bedrooms were excellent. The property was very clean, brand-new, and very practical. The view around is indeed superb. In the village are different restaurants, were you can eat very well and not expensive at all.

Slovenia is a wonderful nice country, very divers, and the apartment was a success.

The service of “Think Slovenia” is excellent. Every detail can be arranged by mail. Responses are fast an accurate.  The holiday in Slovenia was a success, and my wife and I have decided already; when possible we will once come back.

I have just starting learning Slovenian as I plan to move there in March and it's challenging to say the least so I'd say it takes dedication and determination but it's not impossible. I have had some 1-2-1 lessons with Pia from Think Slovenia plus I am doing distance learning at home but making myself be very disciplined and doing it every day (work permitting).

I'm not sure if you are already in Slovenia or in the UK? I haven't had any luck tracking down lessons in the UK but if you are in SLO I'd certainly recommend Pia.

I recently directed an HGTV property show for Leopard Films USA entitled: House Hunters International in which we filmed a family buying a home in Slovenia.
